When searching for information about world conflicts, you will need to read background texts in order to find the effective keywords to use. In the same way that the term genocide was first used in relation to the Halocaust, different language and terms are used in different conflicts and world events. Genocide, crimes against humanity, massacres, all of these terms may have different legal and definitions and connotations.

- Using the Library databases, research your chosen topic using Topic Finder (see below)

- Use your own words, paraphrase, and use direct quotes using proper MLA citation to answer the questions on the last page of this document.

- Read about the background and history of the country in order to determine who were the groups involved and how the conflict is discussed by leaders, journalists and the media.
- Find and keep track of keywords. You have a printed worksheet.
- Pay attention to the date of sources especially for current events
- Cite any resources you used in your research...if you didn't know it before you read it then cite it! Use database citation tools in Gale, Brittanica and Culturegrams. Click here for MLA citation basics.

THIRD: Type in a Keyword or Topic. For example, Sudan. Size of the category is related to the words and topics found in related search results.
- Choose tile or wheel view. I chose “crimes”. Try Tibet versus Tibetan genocide.
- Then choose an article to the right that is most closely related to your topic.
FOURTH: At the bottom of the article, below citations, look for MORE LIKE THIS. At the bottom click on “View All Related Articles”.
